For more than thirty years, Star Clippers has offered a different way to explore the world. Long before sustainable tourism became a global priority, our tall ships were already harnessing the power of the wind, an experience where the sea is not a way to travel, but the very essence of the journey.

We recognise that all travel has an environmental impact. That is why we are committed to reducing ours, through practical initiatives that shape the way we sail, operate on board, and experience the world.

Our ambition is simple: to help preserve the oceans that inspire us today, so they can continue to inspire future generations.

Nature has always been our greatest ally.

Our three tall ships are built to harness the power of the wind, and it is our priority to raise the sails as soon as conditions allow. Every hour spent under sail reduces fuel consumption while giving guests the authentic experience of traditional tall ship travel.

Whenever engines are required, our fleet operates exclusively on low-sulphur marine fuel, in compliance with the IMO's global sulphur cap — one of the strictest international standards for marine emissions.

Our ships welcome just 166 to 227 guests. This human scale is at the heart of everything we do.

Unlike large cruise ships carrying thousands of passengers, our tall ships can access smaller ports, secluded anchorages and hidden coves beyond the reach of larger vessels.

By limiting the number of guests on board, we also help ease the pressure on the destinations we visit. Fewer passengers arriving at the same time means less congestion, greater respect for local communities, and a more authentic way to discover the natural and cultural heritage of each destination.

Because travelling differently also means taking the time to truly experience a place, without contributing to mass tourism.

Across our fleet, our environmental policy rests on three simple principles: reducing waste at its source, maximising reuse and recycling, and ensuring responsible disposal of what remains.

This commitment includes:

• Stainless steel cutlery and reusable tableware for beach barbecues

Protecting our planet also begins with what we serve on board.

We continue to expand our culinary offering to meet evolving guest expectations, while encouraging a more sustainable approach to dining. Our chefs now offer an enhanced selection of vegetarian dishes alongside a growing range of vegan options, available from breakfast through to dinner and several times a week, our culinary teams create original vegetarian Chef's Specials. We try to source local ingredients and beverages whenever possible.

Reducing food waste is just as much a part of the recipe. Supplies are planned using years of consumption data, portions are thoughtfully controlled, and ingredients are managed on a “first in, first out” basis to avoid unnecessary waste.

The sea is our home.

We follow strict international regulations on wastewater management, in line with MARPOL Annex IV, and continuously train our crews in environmentally responsible practices.

We also encourage our guests to adopt simple habits during their travels: reducing single-use plastics, reusing towels rather than requesting daily changes, leaving no litter behind, and respecting the fragile marine ecosystems that make our destinations so special.

Environmental responsibility is not a destination, it is an ongoing journey.

Season after season, we review our practices, introduce new initiatives, and look for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

Because sailing under wind power is more than a means of travel. It is a philosophy built on respect for the oceans, for the destinations we visit and for the people who call them home.
