Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis in the Agora, you can almost hear the voices of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle arguing about who was the greatest philosopher. Ancient Athens, the birthplace of democracy and epicenter of western civilization, is a city for all eternity. Piraeus is the port of Athens, just 15km from the city and 45km from the airport.
One of the most cosmopolitan of all the Greek Islands, Mykonos is a contrast of rocky hills and beautiful beaches. Hora, the capital, spreads around a colourful harbour, a popular meeting place, overlooked by a variety of tavernas, in which fishing boats nestle side by side with luxury yachts.
Kusadasi is a lively seaside resort, and above all the main access point to the famous archaeological site of Ephesus. Extensive excavations have revealed an Ionian city through which visitors can wander. Among the best-preserved ruins are the Theatre, Hadrian's Gate, the Library of Celsus, the Street of the Curetes, Trajan's Fountain and the Odeon, giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in this bygone civilisation.
Ermoupoli, the main town of Syros and administrative capital of the Cyclades, is renowned for its elegant neoclassical architecture and scenic setting across two hills overlooking the Aegean Sea. Elegant mansions, historic churches, Miaouli Square and local museums reflect the island’s rich commercial and cultural heritage, while the medieval settlement of Ano Syros features narrow stepped streets, arched passageways and panoramic sea views. Along the island’s southwestern coast, beaches such as Galissas and Kini offer sandy shores and clear waters, while traditional tavernas showcase the flavours of Cycladic cuisine.
