Your Chance To Experience Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez

21st February 2019

As well as our classic, Caribbean, Mediterranean, South-East Asia and Transatlantic cruises, Star Clipper offers various opportunities to experience fantastic events or visit destinations along a specific theme. Great examples of this include our Grand Prix cruises, where you can take your seat for the Formula 1 in Monaco; our Mamma Mia sailings, including visits to key filming location of this classic musical movie; and, as we will discuss here, a special cruise to witness Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez in 2021.

So, if you’re interested in combining a relaxing cruise aboard one of our ships with this fantastic event in the sailing calendar, here is everything you need to know.

What Is Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez?

Les Voiles de Saint Tropez

Now in its 22nd year under this name (it was previously called La Nioulargue), Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, literally ‘The Sails of St. Tropez, is an annual sailing regatta that takes place off the south coast of France. Each year, over 300 different yachts come from all over the world to race in close quarters in the Bay of Saint Tropez for the esteemed honour of conquering one of the sailing world’s most-loved events.

What Will I See On The Day?

Saint Tropez Harbour

For 2020 and beyond, the format has been adapted so that smaller ships are in competition during the first week and then larger ships take to the seas the week after. However, you will still see a thrilling mix of classic vessels that bring nostalgic and elegance to proceedings and modern yachts aiming to dazzle with contemporary curves and state of the art technology

The historic Saint Tropez harbour is typically abuzz with people clamouring to take a look at the beautiful vessels or grab five minutes to pick the brains of one of the sailors. And, during the prestigious Voiles de Saint-Tropez, this is even more the case. The atmosphere in this world-famous seaside destination is amazing, as likeminded sailing enthusiasts swap stories and remember the day’s events.

After enjoying a great view of the sailing, from the ship or the shore, you’ll be able to rub shoulders with the competitors as they celebrate in Saint Tropez’s chic bars and restaurants.

Where Else Will This Cruise Take Me?

Elba Island

As well as offering time in St. Tropez port, you will also get the chance to relax on the glorious sands of St. Tropez Beach. Other stops on the itinerary include Corsica, Elba and Sardinia – all places where you can soak up the sun and enjoy island life. Then, after watching the regatta, the ship will return to the city from which you departed – the glitz and glamour of Cannes.
