Enjoy The Ultimate Star Clippers Experience On A Transatlantic Cruise

31st March 2019

As well as our South-East Asia, Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises, we also offer the chance to embark on an ocean crossing. These transatlantic cruises take you between Europe and the Caribbean, allowing you to really get to know the ship and crew during a number of sea days. So, if you would like to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime voyage, here are a few things you need to know.

History

Sailing History

Since Christopher Columbus first sailed to the West Indies, transatlantic crossings have been seen as an iconic journey. Before the days of steamships like RMS Lusitania and SS United States, it was sailing vessels that would conduct this route – either for trade or travel. So, by venturing across this vast expanse of water on board one of our tall ships, you will not only be completing something that most cruisers have on their bucket list, but you’ll also be doing it in a way that harks back to the first ships to ever complete such an expedition.

Plenty To Do

Climbing The Crow's Nest

You may think that the endless ocean gets boring after a while or that the facilities on the ship will not be enough to keep you entertained, but most people find this is not the case. Whilst looking out for dolphins and whales that may join your adventure, there will be plenty to keep you busy on board.

The passionate crew lead lectures and hands-on sessions that will help you learn more about sailing. You might discover a penchant for knot tying or realise you’re a first-class navigator; you may even experience some new found bravery and climb up the mast to the crow’s nest. The rest of the time can be spent enjoying a cocktail in the Tropical Bar, revelling in a book whilst curled up in the corner of the library, savouring a rejuvenating spa treatment or simply relaxing on deck with the wind in your hair.

Land Ahoy

Azores

Even our ocean crossings include one or two ports of call on either side of the Atlantic, so there will still be plenty of opportunities to explore ashore. Our upcoming transatlantic cruises have scheduled stops in Ponta Delgada, Azores; San Sebastian, La Gomera; Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Safi, Morocco; and Portimao, Portugal.

These shore days help to break up the time spent at sea and allow you to stretch your legs on land for the day. As well as touring the cities at your own pace, a fantastic range of shore excursions will give you so much to look forward to.

Back To Back

Tropical Bar

If you’re really looking for an in-depth Star Clippers experience, why not book two of our cruises back to back? By adding a Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise to the end or beginning of your transatlantic crossing, you can extend your break and make the most of your time in your arrival or departure destination.

The slow pace and ability to see multiple destinations in one trip that cruising offers means you can really get to know these regions without ever having to stray too far from the comfort of Star Clipper, Star Flyer or Royal Clipper.
