Adriatic Coastline Sailings: As Recommended By The Star Clippers Team

08 October 2026

Star Clippers ships are some of the very few cruise ships that can still reach the heart of Venice, after the city banned larger ships in 2021. Hear directly from our UK-based team about what makes our sailings in this part of the Mediterranean so special – and why it remains top of the wish list for those yet to experience it.

Fay McCormack – General Manager:

Sailing into and out of the heart of Venice, passing the mouth of St Mark’s Square, remains my favourite sailaway and arrival experience. Combined with calls at the smaller, unspoilt Croatian ports of Sibenik, Vis and Rovinj, it offers the perfect blend of historic charm, souvenir shopping and leisurely people-watching, accompanied by some of the best gelato in the Mediterranean. There is even the opportunity to visit one of Europe’s smallest countries, San Marino.

Rosanna Ivkovic – PR & Communications Manager:

One of the most memorable sailing moments for me was departing the heart of Venice as the sun set, with crowds gathered by St Mark’s Square to watch Royal Clipper. They are visibly awe-struck by the sight, so imagine how it feels to actually be on board! The feeling of exclusivity is unmatched.

The Adriatic offers so much tradition and history, amazing food and even on some sailings we can visit the filming location for Mamma Mia 2 – Vis! My highlight is the swim-stop from the Marina Platform when Royal Clipper is at anchor just off the coast of Dubrovnik.

Hannah Steward – Senior Product, Sales & Marketing Executive:

I would love to sail from Venice. I would like to combine the sailing with a city break of Venice or even a beach break in Lido Di Jesolo before embarking Royal Clipper.

Royal Clipper was the first ship I sailed on, and she has a very special place in my heart. Seeing the Venice backdrop as we begin the sailing, and visiting wonderful ports of call on a 7, 10 or 11-night itinerary remains at the top of my wish-list.

Georgina Bryant – Cruise Consultant:

Venice is the port that is on my wish list, mainly because every customer I speak to tells me how amazing sailing in and out of Venice is. I hope one day I can experience this for myself – I love hearing our guests’ stories from this sailing!

There is still availability for our departures from Venice in July and August 2027; take the opportunity to experience something magical, which no words can do justice.
