Star Clippers adds Blue Zone experience to Costa Rica programme

The specialist cruise line is to offer a new, immersive stay in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsular in response to increased client interest for the area. The Nicoya region is one of only five Blue Zones, renowned for longer, healthier lives than anywhere else in the world.

The new 5-night pre-cruise stay in Punta Islita, an area known for exceptional longevity and wellbeing of residents, allows guests to get a taster of life within a Blue Zone destination. Punta Islita Hotel, an eco-resort tucked in hillsides and rainforests will host guests on a Bed & Breakfast basis, inviting them to experience a healthier and more relaxed way of life in a coastal haven. The property is strongly committed to sustainability and community development, whilst promising luxurious and responsible tourism. Guests are invited to experience world-class dining and a range of included activities such as art workshops, bird-watching and hiking, before embarking Star Clipper for a 7-night sailing from Puerto Caldera visiting destinations including Quepos, Golfito, Playa Panama, Bahia Potrero and Islas Tortugas.

Star Clippers’ Blue Zone experience 16-day packages are available on all Costa Rica sailings across the winter 23/24 and winter 24/25 season. The lead in fare based on 2 adults sharing a category 6 cabin is £6799pp (based on 27th January 2024 departure). The price includes return flights from London Gatwick, 2-nights at Hotel Buena Vista, San Jose, internal flights to Nosara, 5-nights at Punta Islita Hotel, a half-day Blue Zone circuit excursion, 7-night full board sailing on Star Clipper, all additional overseas transfers and port charges.

A recent study highlighted nine healthy principles believed to be at the core of Blue Zone living, which includes prioritising movement and stress relief, having a strong sense of purpose and connecting with the local community. Fay McCormack, General Manager of Star Clippers’ UK GSA said: ‘Blue Zone living aligns perfectly with Star Clippers’ ethos of providing an environment that focuses and prioritises an eco-friendly, relaxed and immersive experience. We are delighted to be offering a Blue Zone destination ancillary that fits so well with our brand for the very first time in 2024, and as far ahead as January 2025.’

Star Clippers is represented in the UK by General Sales Agent Fred Olsen Travel and any packages/offers are for UK passengers and trade.
Star Clippers operates three of the world’s largest and tallest fully-crewed sailing vessels. The ships can drop anchor in smaller harbours and visit ports often untouched by larger cruise ships whilst providing guests with the amenities and atmosphere of a private yacht.
High standards of service are provided by an attentive crew and all three ships have expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, a convivial Tropical Bar on deck and a comfortable piano bar and are large enough to offer first class accommodation and dining.
The two smaller ships, Star Flyer and Star Clipper take 166 guests each, with a crew of 74, while Royal Clipper carries 227 with a crew of 106.
